I am so sleepy.
I have zero interest in the book and the so-called 10 year series.
I think I’m gonna fail the silly test.
Yes, don’t argue. It’s silly. Why should auto-car students be forced to take the same theory test as manual-car students?
The relevant people gave a crappy answer: that auto car drivers might wanna drive a manual car in the future. Ya. Since it will involve another test to change the license, then what’s the problem with incorporating another theory test then?
Who or what gave them the perception that auto car learners will wanna convert to a manual car later?
Extracts from this article:
Good to know basics, say police.
THE Traffic Police said holders of 3A licences will benefit from knowing the basics about the gears and clutch. Some cars with automatic transmission now come with features that allow the driver to switch from auto to a ‘semi-manual’ mode.
ME: If I signed up for a auto course, it means that I wanna drive an auto car. What makes you think I will be itchy hand and switch to semi manual?
Mr Ismail of the Bukit Batok Driving Centre said: ‘Who knows, our learners may one day own cars with the semi manual function. With basic knowledge on how gears work, they will be better equipped to operate these cars.’
ME: What do you mean “Who knows?!” When you say “who knows” – it means you “also don’t know” right?!
Ms Tang and Ms Woo however, remain faithful to the idea of fully automatic cars – and are not considering other types of cars, even in the long run.
ME: You see! You see! This Ms Tang and Ms Woo not itchy hand like me! Come, give me a five. And I’m very sure there’s more than the 3 of us!
Still, Mr Choy Long Kai, 55, former chairman of the Singapore Driving Instructors’ Association, said drivers who take the auto option now may want to drive a manual car in the future. If the ‘manual’ questions were stripped out of the theory test, they would then have to take the test again. He said: ‘Class 3A car drivers who wish to upgrade to a Class 3 licence now will … only have to pass a practical test.’
ME: Or bi good lah.
People take driving lessons after 18. By then, most people would have decided on a lot of things:
- which secondary school/JC/Poly/ITE/U to go to;
- which CCA to take part in;
- what courses to take;
- who to go steady with; etc…
– Your parents decided? -or bi good x2 ;
Peer pressure? -or bi good to the power of infinity.
My point is, by 18, you would have enough experience and expertise to make a simple decision between auto and manual right? Surely when you need to fork out a large sum of money, you will be like PCK and use your blain, use your blain, use your blain right?!
Those who make the wrong decision.. Too bad for you lah. You suck thumb. You waste money. You convert your license. We laugh. That’s all. It’s so simple.
This isn’t some kind of irreversible decision, like losing your virginity or something. What’s the big deal?
So… Why must they burden me (and hundreds/ thousands of other auto car learners) with this rubbish?!
Whoever came with the bright idea, may not be so bright after all. Look here… You’re providing a short cut…Thank you so much… But why are you putting a bloody big obstacle along the way?!
My conclusion is this policy is stupid. With a capital S. Bold and underlined.
Say so if you’re lazy to change the theory test format. That’ll be more convincing.
*very irritated cruz*
P/S: If I fail this test, – which is very likely, considering I’m still sitting here writing this… I’m going to write to Mr Wong Kan Seng. *TP under Ministry of Home Affairs right?
