Tired. Very.
14 December 2004 Tuesday | 15:05 | -

Was talking with my eyes half closed this morning. Argh! I’m very tired and I really need a break from work.

Work = on air + prodn + outdoor shows + a lot of other stuff.

Got notice at the 11th hour to be at Funan these 2 days for an event.

Got notice at the 11th hour to watch Kung Fu Hustle tomorrow night cos I’m hosting the gala premiere next week.

Got notice at the 11th hour to go for a photoshoot tomorrow.

I’ve got no life!

Work… Work… Work…

To my mahjong kakis: No, I’m not playing this weekend.

To my coffee kakis: No, I’m not drinking this weekend.

To my other kakis: No, I’m not doing ( insert accordingly ) this weekend.

I wanna sleep.

Sweet dreams, guys.

P/s: OK, this is just a routine complaint. I’m grateful I have a job i enjoy 90% of the time. This is just one of those dark days that form the other 10%

From here

Strong willed and a bit feisty in temper you stand out from other people! Creative but dangerous you have few friends and those that have been accepted into your small group are special and unique just like yourself. Once your mind is made up that’s it and no one can change it. You can think clearly and figure out just what to do in a tense situation which is a rare gift You arent twisted by societies rules and regulations and are rebel by nature!

Back from Genting- 5th Global Chinese Music Awards Promo Event at Genting
13 December 2004 Monday | 11:03 | Away, Global Chinese Music Awards 全球華語歌曲排行榜

Hey! I’m back~

It was a really tiring trip. Arrived at Genting after a short flight and long bus transfer. Then we were off to a welcome dinner with radio reps and artistes from Beijing, Shanghai, Guangdong, Hong Kong, Taiwan and the host, Malaysia. The 8 course dinner began after some very long (and not so interesting) speeches.

It evolved into a confusing translation session at my table. The Malaysian reps spoke mainly English and Cantonese- some couldn’t speak Mandarin-, while the China and Taiwan reps spoke mostly Mandarin and very little English. I spoke English, Mandarin, and a few Cantonese words like “Hai ya!/ Duo Jie Sai/ Lei Ho/ and Ngoh Mm Sek Tang.” Hahaha.

Then the toasting orgy began at the main table where the Station Heads (including Veron, my boss) were seated. In the blink of an eye, she was calling for my help! After gulping down several glasses of red wine on her behalf (plus my own share), I realised I had to abort my plans to visit the casino.. ZzZZzzz …

It was mainly work the following day- meeting, PR lunch, press conference, gala concert, post reception.. Artistes from Malaysia, Hong Kong and China were present. Met up with Hins Cheung and Anson, who greeted me with a “Hao Jiu Bu Jian”. Hey, they remember me!

Then there were artistes like Hacken Lee and Joey Yung, whom I was meeting for the first time. And a couple of Malaysian artistes I barely knew.. Sweat was trickling down my back when I was asked to interview them.. “Huh? Who are they man?!?!” I actually managed a 4-5mins interview with each of the artistes whom I have zero knowledge about. *Whoa*

At the post reception, I convinced the Stations Heads not to drink with me because I had an important mission- to recover the losses incurred when I sneaked into the casino in between events.

And now to report my P&L status. Lost almost RM700 by 2am, Sat. Wanted to give up due to hunger. After getting a drink and tuna sandwich, I stumbled upon this very “attractive” jackpot machine. The computer graphics and sounds lured me to sit down again.

The 1st RM100, RM200 started to trickle in. Part of me wanted to pack up and go, because my eyes were closing. But as I began to eat my sandwich, some icons appeared and in 2 mins, i won RM800.

Yeah!

It was about 4am by then, and nearly 5am by the time I got into bed. A few hours later, I was whisked to KL Airport. We arrived at 2pm for a 5pm flight. Thanks huh.

Despite half opened eyes and a strong desire to collapse onto my bed, I was out of the house after a quick shower- Jolin’s concert!

Going away
6 December 2004 Monday | 13:09 | Away, Global Chinese Music Awards 全球華語歌曲排行榜

All right. I’m finally back online after a one week plus hiatus.

It’s mainly because my home PC has been severely infected. All the icons on my desktop are un-usable.

I’ve gotten too dependent on office access, which is why I didn’t bother to upgrade the desktop at home. I’m kinda deliberating whether to get a PC or laptop. Still thinking. But one thing is for sure- Bye bye dial-up! Broadband, here I come!

In the meantime, I’m off to Genting! The 4th Global Chinese Music Awards was just held in Taiwan in September, and publicity for the 5th Awards Ceremony is going to kick off this week. I’ll be flying to Genting with my boss this Thursday for a meeting, followed by a press conference and a concert.

The government has touched on the importance of Mandarin and business in China. I can really relate to that. I thought my command of the language was pretty ok and I couldn’t have anticipated the mounting pressure when I had to communicate with counterparts from Mainland China and Taiwan. Whoa! Damn stressed man!

It’s a breeze presenting facts and figures, but when small talk time happens, I’ve got to spend at least three seconds deciphering what they actually mean, and probably another three seconds thinking of a proper response.

This Global Chart assignment has helped me a great deal. I used to spend almost 40 minutes composing an email in Chinese. And now I take 10! (The mail goes out to DJs and heads of foreign stations so it has to be error free.)

I’ll double up as a roving reporter and file back audio and print reports.

TGIF
26 November 2004 Friday | 10:15 | -

Sigh… Normally I look forward to Fridays because

#1- I don’t have to get up at dawn the next day and
#2- It’s usually mahjong galore! Haha.

This must be one of the worst Fridays ever.

Jay Chou is in town and I’m not going for his show. Argh. Working, working, working. Fortunately, he is still at the top of his game so there will probably be more to come.

You know what? I peed beside Jay once. That was at the 4th Global Chinese Music Awards in Taiwan this September. I was minding my own business while standing there and emptying my bladder, when Mr Chou came to the urinal on my right and started peeing.

Oh. Jay. Chou. Peeing. Beside. Me.

And to answer that burning question- No, I didn’t see what you guys wanna see.

Enjoy the show if you’re going.
