1) Dear DJ-turned-lecturer, congratulations on the launch of Seoulful Living. But wait, you mean your work at Ngee Ann Polytechnic isn’t stressful enough? Why a second book?
Surely it IS stressful. I am new to the school and still adapting to the work culture, system, etc. But I have always wanted to do a second one. I wanted to come up with something better e.g a more focused concept, better printing quality, more trendy book design. The Korean wave is stronger than ever-compared to 4 years ago when I wrote my first book, I think there is certainly demand and market for a second book.
2) First, we’ve got to establish that you are a credible author, how many times have you been to Korea?
I lost count…. More than 10 times…
3) Tell us more about Seoulful Living.
A comprehensive bilingual (English and Chinese) travel guide featuring close to 100 favourite dining, shopping, clubbing spots of Korean celebrities.
4) And you went to ALL those places?
Almost. I only had one week to cover close to 100 locations. For clubs and pubs, my partners and I only took pictures, we did not have time to go in and party.
5) You must have spent a bomb visiting these places!
Yup. But friends from Seoul Metropolitan have been extremely helpful and generous. They were with me most of the time and they always offered to pay for drinks and snacks.
6) Many of my friends travelled to Korea on package tours because of the language barrier. Will they be safe going there alone with your book?
I cannot guarantee that they will be 100% safe, but they will be ‘safer’. Hahaha. Seoulful Living will offer many trendy dining, shopping and clubbing options. And who knows, you may meet your favourite Korean star if you’re lucky! *wink*
Seoulful Living by Liyi will be launched on 27 November Saturday at Kinokuniya, Ngee Ann City. The autograph session hosted by Junwei will begin at 3pm.
