Ahead of the Singapore Radio Awards organised by MediaCorp next Wednesday, Singapore Press Holdings is presenting three trophies in the radio category at the Singapore e-Awards this Saturday.

A close friend in the industry promptly gave me a virtual nudge. “Not bad. You know it’s impossible to beat Wenhong in these two categories because he’s the No. 1 at Unionworks right?”

Now, that statement is unfair to Wenhong. From my point of view, he’s an accomplished radio presenter, and if the judges were looking for a witty and humorous talk show host, he’s an excellent choice. The fact that he won a competition organized by his parent company doesn’t necessarily mean that the results were rigged.

Since we’re due for two different sets of radio awards in five days, I thought it’s apt to bring this up again. I’m not sure how my peers think. I’ve been fortunate enough to experience both winning and not winning in the last couple of years. (Again, note that I do not use the word lose.) Nothing can ever bring about the sense of devastation when I went home empty handed some years ago despite five nominations, and the joy of getting that first trophy can never be replicated.

To the people who have supported and loved me all this while, I hope you’re happy with the first results slip this season. Detractors might have questioned, and will probably still question your sanity, but I hope little things like this can help prove that you guys have impeccable taste. *maniac laughter*

It’s really nice to receive professional recognition, so I would like to express my sincere appreciation to the organizing committee and the judging panel. (I don’t know you guys personally, and I thought you would be watching out for my response on this space… So there you go… Hahaha!) Thank you for the two silver medals, and as my friend continued to insist, for making me emerge as the top outsider in an event organized by SPH.
