Unusual Day
15 July 2009 Wednesday | -

I don’t normally behave like this, you know.

I washed down an egg sandwich with Coke by 7.50am. Then I was munching an apple and sipping coffee at 8.30am. But I still wasn’t satisfied.

My rainy morning justification was rebuked by Jiahui. “Please lah! Indoor airconditioned studio leh. No difference whether it’s hot or wet outside!” *cue slap forehead action*

Whatever.

I sent a SOS message to a colleague, who had bought me breakfast on several occasions. (Messages in the green bubbles are from me.)

She later called to say there was no prata. * cue thunder and lightning effect* Because I was on air and couldn’t answer, she took the initiative to get me two sardine puffs instead. Not my favourite and not a perfect substitute, but thanks much! Heh.

And if you think I had been fed for the day, no way! I had a hearty lunch- rice with hainanese pork chop, at 11.45am.

*flash Bioskin Slimming number*

It must the weather lah!

Less than one month to 9 Aug!
14 July 2009 Tuesday | National Day 2009

In the last couple of weeks, I had the opportunity to meet many of the men and women behind this year’s National Day Parade. A few of them gushed, “Trust me, this NDP is going to be the best ever!”

I nodded and smiled politely. But of course. It’s natural to take pride in your own work.

As I left the final Combined Rehearsals on 4th July, I texted BG Tan Chuan-Jin, NDP Exco Chairman.

“Sir, I wasn’t totally convinced when your guys kept telling me the show is good… Now that I’ve watched almost 50% of the show, I sincerely think this WILL be the best NDP ever! WOOHOO!”

Traditionally, Parade and Show were two separate segments. And the Preshow was most predictable- Members of Parliament enter, sing a song, Ministers enter, sing a song, Prime Minister arrives, sing a song, President arrives, sing National Anthem…

This year, all segments morph into one single show. You won’t know what’s happening next- unless you are in the committee or if you’re holding the programme rundown in the media box like me.

The five hosts, led by Gurmit Singh, do something more than their usual, “Make some noise, Singapore!”. Their involvement in the Singapore Story upped the fun and entertainment factors totally.

There’ll be two more NE shows on the coming Saturdays, and a Preview on 1st Aug, before the big bang on National Day. If you don’t have tickets, the Esplanade Waterfront is a prime venue to catch the proceedings. The Merlion Park is an alternative.

Simple English please. Don’t act chim. Don’t be loh soh.
14 July 2009 Tuesday | Platform 9¾

The new semester begins next week.

There were a couple of emails highlighting this very important issue.

Change of assignment submission deadlines to one day before the day of the week of the class.

What?! Can it be more ambiguous?

Seriously, if you have people reading your letter three times just to (try and) understand what you’re saying, you’ve failed miserably. I shudder to think what they are teaching in the mandatory “Effective Communication” elective.

孫燕姿 「答案是 The Answer Is ⋯⋯」新加坡演唱會
12 July 2009 Sunday | Concerts
