No. I don’t want your freebie.

Some quality control needed here.

There I was at the store, trying to renew my broadband package. The 24 month contract came with a modem- which I desperately needed after the old one died on me yesterday. I didn’t pay attention to the other freebies. I just needed a new modem; anything else is unimportant.

Then the service person joyously told me that they would enroll me in their cable television service. A number of complimentary shows for a limited period. Whatever. I just needed a new modem; anything else is unimportant.

He proceeded to tell me about the set up box:

He:
We’ll send someone to install… …

Cruz:
Huh? Oh then I don’t want already.

He:
But it’s in the package. It’s free.

Cruz:
It’s ok. I don’t want it.

He:
It’s included. I have to give it to you.

Cruz:
Ok, give it to me now. I’ll return it to you now.

He:
I’ll have to send someone to install for you. If you don’t like, you can return to us after one month.

Cordial smile -> No smile -> Plain rude. No.

No means no. No buts.

I’m sure the poor guy was simply following instructions- they probably have strict orders to up their cable tv figures… There is no better way to irritate your customers than to stuff freebies down their throats and have them go through so much unnecessary trouble and hassle to reject/ return your apparent kindness.

If your freebie was so desirable, it wouldn’t be free, would it?

I once encountered this Sales Person.. I guess he is memorizing/reading from the script.. As in, no matter how I cut him in saying Im simply not interested, he will continue (without bothering about my NO) from where I cut him and continue from there.. Horrible.. Another one is a Credit Card Company.. Also same case.. I rejected the Insurance service, than he promote credit card, I rejected credit card, he continue to tell me how good it is, I rejected it again and again, he proceed to tell me about loan.. I say no.. Im really not interested, he tell me how the loan can help me no matter how I tried to stop him.. I mean I was trying to be nice by not scolding him or slamming his phone, but he simply continue recommending different financial(loan) service to me no matter what I said or even, dun allow me to say anything.. So in the end, I told him.. “No thanks.. I have a lot of money.. That is when he shut up and put down the phone..”

Cruz, this is kind of way for u to take their items, so that after 1 month u will forget and cont’d with the subscription or becos we are too lazy to cancel it then cont’d…it is 1 of the lame tactics……………

reminds me of those credit lines that come free with credit cards. Make me tear up several letters each month to see the $0 value. No matter how I said “no”, they will insist enrolling me to try.

yours must be taking singtel $39.90 plan. like mine last year i just want to change to mio plan as is cheaper. I tell them i just want the plan as i already have the modem and just change the plan for me thats all. But they say the setting is different and also installation for both is free and if in 6 month after the free promotion you dun want it. You can bring back to us. So in 6 month time i return the bax they ask me alot of Q. y u want to return. i say becos i dun like it and they keep asking and waste my time to go down and return and wait half an hour just to return the box.

Been wanting to post something on your blog, but I guess a silly “I love your show” is well, just silly >//<

They tried to push their TV service to me as well, I told them “No” and when they insisted, I ask for their manager. That did the trick ^_^
