AWAS!
31 March 2009 Tuesday | -

This is a warning to my family and friends, readers and listeners, acquaintances and associates. Do not come near me on 15 Apr. Susan Miller has this to say:

You have only one really tense day due, and it’s coming on April 15. On this day, Mars (war, energy) and Uranus (surprise, outbursts, and explosions) will merge energies and in so doing, oppose your Sun and be conjunct transiting Saturn. That’s a potent brew. Those Virgos who were born on or within four days of September 16 will feel this aspect most…

If I can make people cry on a normal day, I don’t know what I am capable of on 15 Apr. Muahahahhaha.

On a cheerier note, I might get some good news at the end of the month.

Virgo is a sign that does well in the communicative arts. If you are a screenplay writer, producer, author, editor, or in other ways work in broadcasting or publishing, you will find opportunity at month’s end.

Excellent.

I really should be working on my radio drama script, or the 800-word Chinese composition due on Friday, instead of reading my April horoscope. Yongfook recommends this for people who are easily distracted.

6+7!
31 March 2009 Tuesday | 31.03.1996

31 March 1996. 0200-0600hrs. My first ever solo shift on 933.

Six years as a freelancer and seven years as a full time talker, the youngest DJ ever on the station hits 30 later this year. What an amazing journey so far.

You see the white space above? It’s because I’m looking forward to more exciting moments in Radio. I assure you I’ll be around for a while more… Until I get displaced or until I strike Big Sweep, whichever is earlier.

Terribly Ashamed
29 March 2009 Sunday | Platform 9¾

#1- The new term began two weeks ago. I wasn’t the only one to gasp (loudly!) when the lecturer in charge of the third module informed us that she didn’t want a typewritten essay. The 300 word assignment was to be done in class. With pen and paper.

My gosh. I speak broadcastable Mandarin on a daily basis and I’m surrounded with Chinese characters all day, be it reading news scripts or writing radio drama lines. I am obviously proficient enough in this language, but over reliance on the computer has resulted in me using a pencil to complete the composition. I had to rely on the phone(‘s Chinese SMS function) when I couldn’t remember the exact strokes of at least twenty characters. Is there an additional dash on the right, or slash on the left? Oh man. I’m terribly ashamed.

I need someone to give me 聽寫。

#2- I still have a short attention span. I totally understand why my teacher-friends confiscate mobile phones and other electronic devices; else the restless kids would be facebooking or twittering in class, like I do in a three hour lecture. I ought to sit still and concentrate. Be a conscientious student like my classmate who comes to class with giant sized lecture notes.

P/S: She regrets this tree-killing mistake, and pledges her support for the next twenty Earth Hours.

Still on the 裸睡 issue
29 March 2009 Sunday | Media

Wendy was telling me the other day that she had a shock when she saw extracts of her blog being reproduced on Shin Min. She thought they could have informed her beforehand. To which, I replied, “You think they are so free meh? What cannot be printed on the papers shouldn’t be published online anyway.”

I didn’t expect them to put up a translated version of my blog entry that very evening.

By the way, there was an article in Shin Min a few weeks ago which I didn’t have a chance to respond to. Now that I’m sure they read my blog, I just want to say… Haiyah, you all donch like that lah. It’s got nothing to do with me wor.. Hahahahaha.

*Obviously, no one came to me with their Maths problems lah.

I suspect terms like ‘cheerful’, ‘friendly’ and ‘mixes well with classmates’ are synonymous with ‘talkative’. As you can see, I did well in languages- which do not require much ‘studying’. How I got an A1 in Geography is still very much a mystery though.

Apart from breaking test tubes in the Chemistry labs, and other apparatus in the Physics labs, I also broke the hearts of the teachers who told us that constant practise was the key to passing Maths examinations. For the record, I was one of the few black sheep in the ’95 cohort, who didn’t get a distinction for E. Maths in the 1995 ‘O’ Levels. Fortunately, the rest of them did well enough for us to be ranked Top 10 in Singapore that year.
