Association of Bloggers (Singapore)
Wah seh. The Association of Bloggers (Singapore) (rather unimaginative name, if you ask me) was formed this week. Everyone- local blogging titans or otherwise, had something to say. As much as I would like to call myself a blogger, there are some Pure Bloods who think that I’m really a Muggle just because of my day job. Anyway, I want to comment too!
I read their mission statement (of sorts) and assumed (which simply means that it’s my own personal wild guess and may or may not be accurate) that they’re actually doing too many things all at once.
First, they want to build a community (of sorts) by bringing people together and fostering a bond (of sorts). If you ask me, you would need a certain number of people. And to get a certain number of people, you would need publicity. Launching a blogging association via the mainstream media just sounded wrong to me. (To me, I said. You don’t have to agree.) An endorsement on a credible high traffic blog would certainly bring in the numbers, no? Was it because… …
I did a quick check on the individual page ranks of the Committee Members in the Association of Bloggers (Singapore). They range from 2 to 4. The page rank of this blog is 4, while Mr Brown has a 6. With our powers combined, would we achieve local, if not world dominance? And if I start sucking up to him now, would he give me a pompous sounding title of Senior Executive Vice President of the Association of Higher Page Ranked Bloggers (Singapore) ? Nah, I’m just joking. I don’t have time.
Now, the Association of Bloggers (Singapore) claimed that the local blogging scene was “controlled by foreign bloggers based in Singapore”. Got meh? I must be the proverbial frog in the well, for the most famous foreign blogger I know who operates locally is that Cowboy . Then again, he isn’t here half the time wor. The last I read, he was having a hard time in China. And he was also busy making friends with a too cool for words woman. I’m not sure if he has the time to control the local blog scene. Or is that sneaky fellow doing it via proxy?
Sources tell me (they might be wrong lah, so don’t take this seriously) that this other foreign blogger based in Singapore hosted an awards ceremony previously. I’m not going to mention names, for they conveniently forgot about the creation of a DJ-Blogger Award (of sorts). So anyway, it seems (meaning may or may not be true) that someone was pissed over not winning some major award, so rebelled against the other foreign blogger based in Singapore, which in turn earned her a ban in that community. And I thought my life was drama enough.
I’m not providing a link to the Association of Bloggers (Singapore). You can google for it, if you’re really keen. Oh, that brings me to another point. The “official blog” (of sorts) for the Association of Bloggers (Singapore) is currently hosted (for free) on WordPress. Not that I’m in a position to comment… But if I do register a Club or something, I’ll probably get a dotcom. It’s 2009, you know.

I echo gerlynn words. To me, a blog is personal and it really depends on what the author wants to write. So, is there really a need for an association?
