Hong Kong Revelations

#1: Cruz Teng is plain stupid.
I was walking up and down in Tsim Sha Tsui on Thursday with a bag and two new pairs of Adidas. I was startled to feel a slight strain and began to wonder if my stamina was failing. It was after a full two hours on the streets that I realised I had an unopened bottle of mineral water and a can of Coke in my bag. 1,800 ml of liquid in total. Dumbness.

#2: Cruz Teng isn’t such a shopping freak after all.
Contrary to what my friends predicted, I didn’t return with an additional suitcase in tow. After exploring Central, Causeway Bay and Mongkok the last couple of days, and some last minute walkabout in Tsim Sha Tsui and the airport, I came back with only a suit and two pairs of shoes. The only thing that I was really tempted to buy was a white Gucci bag I saw at HK Terminal 1. I didn’t ask for the price, but estimate it to be about S$2,000. I’m not sure why, but I wasn’t in a shopping mood ley

#3: Cruz Teng is a jinx. Guarantee, chop stamp, confirm
They discovered melamine in eggs on the eve of my departure. People flocked to the Bank of Asia when a profit warning was issued the day I arrived. Krispy Kreme Hong Kong went bust the very next day. I’m not the only one in anguish. My media friends in HK tell me that the stores will remain in operation until they finish up their current stock of flour and other artery blocking ingredients. It was the first and probably the last time that I pack 24 pieces of Original Glazed doughnuts in Hong Kong…
