Zhang Yining vs Li Jiawei

It’s on!

10.08am: Li Jiawei was leading 10-6 when Zhang Yining came back swiftly with 3 consecutive points. Li Jiawei wins the first round with 11-9.

10.17am: Zhang Yining wins Round 2. 11-8.

10.28am: They tied at 9-9, 10-10, and then Zhang Yining goes on to win Round 3 with 12-10.

10.38am: Zhang Yining takes Round 4 with 11-8.

10.45am: Zhang Yining scores with 11-5. The leading margin was increased dramatically in this crucial round.

Defending champion Zhang Yining enters the finals this evening, while Li Jiawei from Team Singapore fights for the bronze medal at 7.30pm.

While rooting for Li Jiawei, I’m immensely relieved at the same time that Zhang Yining has made it to the Gold Medal match. She has way too much at stake. As the No 1 female player of the No 1 sport in the host country, she recited the athlete’s pledge at the Olympics Opening. It would have been a crashing blow should the pride and joy of the home team lose to an exported talent.

Jane, I felt that what Cruz mentioned on air today is a fact. I feel that he didnt support China but just stating the fact. Zhang Yining really have alot at stake. Imagine if Li Jiawei wins her, how badly it will hurt her especially she is number 1!!! Although Li Jiawei lost, but as long she do her best, i think that is enough. It is not easy to win the number 1 player

sighh. I’m watching the match of Guo Yue against Wang Nan now. I have a feeling Wang Nan will meet Li JIa Wei at the Bronze Medal match. It may be another tough fight for Li Jia Wei, to acheive another medal for Singapore.

    >> Singapore’s Li Jia Wei beat China’s Wang Nan, the number four seed in the Women’s Singles event at the Volkswagen Open China in Changchun, on Saturday 17th May 2008 and thus repeated the success that she had enjoyed in August 2004 at the Athens Olympic Games in Greece.

Could this be the reason why Guo Yue is playing against Li Jia Wei instead?

so china really thought of such strategy to claim all the top3 medals under their belt
so crafty. no choice homeground that’s why!

go, jiawei u make s’pore proud by reaching the semi already, coz in semi already have 3 china players, so somehow jiawei (the only foreigner in the semis) will have some disadv

just try ur best 4th oso not bad alr!
