What went through Zhang Yining’s mind as she faced off Feng Tianwei moments earlier?
“I’m number 1. And I’m on homeground. I WILL win, no matter what.”
“Damnit, I’m number 1. I lost to her in Japan a few months ago. I MUST win today! Will this girl back off?!”

Zhang Yining took a dreadfully long time to beat Feng Tianwei, and will meet her childhood friend Li Jiawei in the semi finals at 10am tomorrow. Either of them will enter the finals at 8.30pm, while the the bronze medal match will take place an hour earlier.
It’s the end of the Olympics competition for Feng Tianwei, but it’s certainly the beginning of major stardom for the girl who celebrates her 22nd birthday at the end of this month.

1. Zhang Yining was told to use a reserve paddle as her original one failed to pass checks.
“球员们对球板有很强的依赖性，很敏感。今天一上场就有点儍，“心都凉了”，赛前用备用板练了两下，觉得特别难打，因为备用板的海绵已经四天没用了。”
2. Zhang Yining said it was her toughest fight in this Olympiad.
“张怡宁觉得有些疲劳，她也承认这是本届比赛打到现在最艰苦的一场。”
3. Zhang Yining is impressed by Feng Tianwei.
“赛前也看她了的录像，她的防守能力不错，相持能力很强，应该说有很大的上升空间，不能想象她未来会发展成什么样”
4. Zhang Yining takes the semis very seriously.

Meantime, Guo Yue and Wang Nan have made it to the semi finals.
Assuming Zhang Yining lives up to her name and makes her way into the Gold Medal Match, Li Jiawei will have to meet either of the Chinese players who are ranked No.2 and No.5 respectively. And because Li Jiawei had repeatedly defeated Wang Nan, would Guo Yue deliberately (be made to) lose the semis to ensure Wang Nan’s entry into the finals (thus confirming Zhang Yining’s gold medal), and take on Li Jiawei in the Bronze Medal Match to fulfill China’s dream of grabbing all three medals in the Women’s Singles?

Yes I had wanna watch live telecast of this No 9 vs No 1 match! But in the end we only saw wrestling.. =(
So I went online to watch live results! Can you imagine if we are watching live in action? It will be sssoooooo exciting with Feng keep chasing Zhang to get her points! I really admire her perseverance in winning every single game she is in.. Feng only lose to Zhang by 2 precious last points in every game..
Although Feng Tianwei lost to WR No. 1, she will definitely be welcomed by everyone in Singapore when Team Singapore returns home, with much glory and fame. No doubt, Feng will become the potentially sportswoman for this year!
Last year, nobody knew who Feng Tianwei was. From this moment, everyone will roar for her. Jiayou, Feng! You can do it! Thank you for your efforts in Team Singapore! =)

i can’t make it home on time to watch the match…so chose to stay in office to watch the live results! my heart nearly stop….so exciting to see them chasing after each other..:p

yah there wasn’t any live telecast on Ch 5, 6pm on Zhang vs Feng’s match, neither Li vs Wang’s match. I wanna watch but we saw wrestling instead. =(
So I resorted to glue my eyes on the live results from the web.. so every 10 seconds or more, i’ll see each point increasing by zhang, by feng, by zhang, and by feng again… I was sooo anxious and cheering for Feng in my heart!
Hope mediacorp can repeat telecast these 2 exciting matches this weekend?

I was monitoring the results too, cos there wasnt any live telecast! Though I was just looking at numbers instead of the match, I was still nervous for Feng Tian Wei. For every point she won, I found myself screaming like mad. It was a tough fight for Zhang yining, definitely.
Feng Tian Wei, is a miracle. One day, we’ll see her become the World’s best player. One day, one day.

Looks like your wild guess is correct. Wang Nan is through to the finals and Now Jiawei will have to face Guo Yue. Poor Jiawei will have to fight hard for her bronze medal.
其实张怡宁VS冯天薇的时候.由于裁判觉得张怡宁的球拍厚度有问题.张怡宁临时换了备用的球拍.这个对选手的手感和心理有很大的影响.
虽然冯天薇输了,但是正如电视台转播的评论员说的一样,冯天薇发挥到了极致.能给张怡宁这样威胁的.
已经不多见了.
我相信在2012年的伦敦奥运会上.冯天薇会有更好的表现.

现在中国女子单打的对手就是新加坡队.
也只有新加坡对能跟中国对抗衡.
而男子当中的,德国的波尔,韩国的柳承敏(虽然被淘汰)了.

from the way feng tianwei played, i believe she can go even further in the competition (like single semi or final) when she compete in the london2012 olympic. must take this 4 years to polish up her skills so as to match up with zhang yining

And although Li Jia Wei din get the Women Singles Bronze Medal, but she got 4th placing in the world and her play is much more better than 4years ago.
She is terrific!!! Im so proud to have her play for singapore:)))
