JASMINE FINE ARTS presents : A Qi Yuwu Initiative
Charity Art Auction in aid of the Sichuan Earthquake
Film actor Qi Yuwu has initiated a fund-raising effort to contribute towards the Red Cross China Earthquake Appeal.
He has approached Jasmine Fine Arts to donate 5% of their proceeds from the sale of paintings from the current “china CHINA” art show in association with Shangri-La Hotel’s Chinese cultural event “Road to Beijing”. The exhibition started on 15 May and will continue till 28 May at the Shangri-La Hotel Lobby Court. Artworks available for purchase include those by renowned Chinese contemporary artists Guo Wei, Xue Song and Ma Yue and range from S$14,000 to S$196,000.
Besides roping in Jasmine Fine Arts to contribute their proceeds from the “china CHINA” show to the Red Cross China Earthquake Appeal, Qi is offering his own limited lithograph print by another top Chinese artist, Su Xinping for auction. All proceeds from the auction of this artwork will go towards the Appeal.
Qi acquired the very first print of the Comrade series by Su Xinping in 2006.
As a Chinese national originally from Guangzhou, Qi feels very strongly about doing his part to support the rescue and recovery efforts toward the China Earthquake victims in Szechuan. He hopes to get the support of Singaporeans in this and urges everyone to do their part in whatever way they can.

This is the second piece of Chinese contemporary art that I acquired so it is very special to me. Su Xinping, well known for his woodprints, is very respected and is considered one of the world’s top Chinese artists. The print tells of the changes taking place in China right now. Su was an artist in resident at the Singapore Tyler Print Institute specially to create the Comrade and Toast series in 2005. How this piece is different from other print works is that the original mould was broken after the prints were created which means this is the first print of only 15 pieces in the world! So I am really heartened that Jasmine Fine Arts has accepted my proposal to work together towards helping the earthquake victims. I am also glad I am able to offer this print by Su Xinping up for auction. I really hope to do my part to help the survivors says Qi.
