It was depressing to see another friend leave the 20s club and upgrade himself to the next category. Muahahhahaa.
A surprise was planned on Sunday afternoon.

The birthday man took his own sweet time in the showers, while we stared helplessly at the ice cream cake.
SURPRISE!
Here’s a repeat of the story. A couple of years ago, we ran a contest on air. Irvin was one of the winners (via SMS). For some strange reason, I couldn’t pronounce his name. “我一时念不出你的名字。恭喜你，I-R-V-I-N。”
It turned out we had a couple of mutual friends. The first time we had dinner, he said to me, “I read your blog. I thought you’re effectively bilingual. How come you don’t know how to pronounce Irvin?”
*coughs
Irvin must have been too overwhelmed that he decided to sing a song on his last day as a 29 year old. Apparently it was the first time he sang at a karaoke in years. And I think he must be a closet microphone whore because it didn’t take too much effort to coerce him into singing a second song.
Happy 30th Birthday, Irvin! You’re one of the kindest people I know. Yes, you’re kind. But I’m not. We’ll still play the infamous egg game at the BBQ next month. May you successfully choose a cooked egg from the row of raw ones. With the good karma you’ve accumulated, I’m sure we won’t have a chance to smash a raw egg on your head. May your business prosper. Huat ah!
