Terrorist on the loose. In Singapore.

Someone has A LOT of explaining to do.

SINGAPORE : A massive police operation is underway in Singapore after the leader of the Jemaah Islamiyah network here, Mas Selamat Kastari, escaped from detention at 4.05pm on Wednesday.

A statement from the Home Affairs Ministry says Mas Selamat walks with a limp and is presently at large.

He is not known to be armed and is one of Singapore’s most wanted men.

…Investigations revealed that he was the mastermind behind a plan to hijack an airplane and crash it into Changi airport.

I imagine that all the immigration checkpoints are on high alert now. If he gets out of Singapore, heads are going to roll.

If I’m in the operations team, I’ll probably have all three telcos MMS his picture to all mobile phone users in Singapore and have everyone look out for this fugitive. Of course, all charges should be billed to the relevant department. We had a budget surplus last year anyway.

Joking.

That guy used to work as a mechanic in the same company [SBS Transit] as my Dad sometime back. My Dad even spoke to him on a few occasions before, but didn’t really know him well. He was this quiet and ‘harmless’-looking guy. Then he suddenly didn’t go to work, and my Dad and colleagues suspected he had something to do with JI as at that time the news was hot about just that.

Who knew a terrorist could be amongst your everyday crowd?

I am disappointed to hear about the escape and after so many armed personnel mobilized to nab him, there was no report of success. I feel the authorities should explain to the Minister and all Singaporeans what happened and YES, some heads (at senior level) should roll to demonstrate a level of accountability. His escape will surely threaten the nation’s security and the Govt will need to spend more money to secure Singapore against his threats (which means Govt fees & taxes will go up). The jam at the two causeways probably costs the economy millions too in terms of time & efficiency lost, what a waste. This matter should NEVER had happened…

Oh my, I’m at a loss for words…
It would be almost impossible to get away limping by yourself.
I could imagine someone else helping him get away, but no one said anything about accomplices…

  28. cookie Says:

it’s because his limping is not as bad as what most of us would imagine it to be. according to Assistant Commissioner Wong Hong Kuan, Director of Operations it is NOT pronounced when he is walking, but only shows up when he is running or walking very fast. so if we’re not alert enough he could be walking “normally” past us.
