While queuing for Enid Blyton storybooks yesterday, I impatiently sent an SMS,

“Why got people come and buy textbooks, assessment books and new stationery on X’mas eve one? They are jamming up the queue!”

They must have gotten the cue from the media reports that Singaporeans are setting aside higher budgets for Christmas shopping. As they packed my birds’ nest yesterday,

先生，你要不要也买一些鲍鱼？

鲍鱼？过年才买吧。圣诞节吃火鸡，不吃鲍鱼。。。

Christmas for me is quieter this year. I suspect it’s because I’m still coping with post Turkey blues. Hahaha!

The BBQ on Friday, titled Christmas By The Sea, turned into a logistics nightmare as we first struggled to start a fire under cloudy skies, and then held two giant umbrellas to shield the flames. The street lamp went bonkers and we were roaming around (that corner of) Labrador Park in darkness.

A potluck party was held at Mandy’s place on Sunday evening. Friends of 14 years (!) made small talk while Manchester United beat Everton 2-1 in the background. From cheap and oily canteen food, we moved on to a low carb high protein meal. Plenty of meat. But no Coke. Bleah.

After the family X’mas dinner, I headed for a late night movie at Causeway Point and was whispering Christmas greetings as the clock struck 12. The two groups of seven friends, some of whom were meeting for the first time all had the same conclusion. Nicolas Cage could have hired a better stylist (and perhaps a better toupee maker) for his role in National Treasure: Book of Secrets.

As demonstrated by K, the best way to break the ice when meeting new friends would be to buy supper. And oh, the Milo Dinosaur we had, came with straws in corresponding red and green! LOL.
