你是不是？
Most of the time, I don’t relish being asked, “你是不是。。。”.
(No one has ever mistaken me for someone else yet. However, I feverishly pray for the day when someone goes, “你是不是。。。金城武/ 王力宏 / *insert some random name belonging to the same category.”)
I’d rather get on with life blending in with the bland ones (ouch!), though that can be a challenge when you are 179.5cm tall, and presently walking with a slight limp.
However, there are moments when I jump for joy when people ask, “你是不是。。。丁志勇。”
I was at Camp this afternoon for a medical review. If that fractured foot can’t get me a downgrade, I don’t know what else can.
Anyway, it was raining cats and dogs, and there weren’t any umbrellas in the car. I had used them- yes, three!- previously and left them at home to dry.
Just as I was wondering how I would be able to get to the Medical Centre from the open air carpark in that storm- (running was evidently not an option), the Regimental Policeman inspecting my car boot gave me a wide smile and went, “你是不是。。。丁志勇?”
Seriously, I’m really not used to borrowing umbrellas from smiley people armed with loaded rifles.
At emergencies like this, I’m really glad that I’m 丁志勇.
