Two pairs of complimentary movie passes in a week

I sat down with Leo at Lido and asked, “Erm, there’s a Part 1 isit?”

Apparently, The Bourne Ultimatum is the third movie starring Matt Damon as Jason Bourne, after The Bourne Identity in 2002 and The Bourne Supremacy in 2004.

Oh! Which rock was I under Which Getai was I at? How could I have missed the previous two?!

The Bourne Ultimatum is a highly engaging movie with the amnesic Jason Bourne (still) trying to uncover the secret behind his identity. In New York, Moscow, London, Madrid and several other Euporean cities like Tangier in northern Morocco, Jason Bourne relies on his wit and skills to deflect attacks from CIA, which deems this character with security clearance above Top Secret a deadly threat to the agency.

In comparison, James Bond is a flamboyant horny old uncle with patterns more than badminton. Mission Impossible’s Ethan Hunt is a pretty boy who almost cannot function without his comrades. Jason Bourne exudes remarkable charm as a rugged hands on agent with the requisite brains and brawn. Although he is capable of delivering fatal blows, the guy shows compassion whenever possible.

Let there be a Part 4, please!!

Forty minutes into the movie, I texted a friend in the movie industry (who is a big fan of Daniel Wu).

“Oh you falling asleep ah? Ya ya, the movie is quite slow. But the cinematography is classy.”

Sure it is.

This is John Woo’s first Asian release as Producer after his foray to Hollywood. The stellar cast of Daniel Wu, Liu Ye, Shu Qi, Zhang Zhen and Yang You Ning is truly impressive.

Three young men leave the village to glamourous Shanghai. Their initial vows of brotherhood shatter they get closer to the triad boss, his woman, and his brother. As the tension rises, everyone is forced to take sides, and guns are pulled out at one another.

I couldn’t help noticing that:

-Everyone was smoking, drinking and fiddling with guns most of the time.

-Zhang Zhen looked constipated most of the time.

-Daniel Wu seemed to be in pain most of the time.

-Yang You Ning was confused and bewildered most of the time.

-Shu Qi looked gorgeous most of the time.

    There might be.

Eric Van Lustbader has written The Bourne Legacy and The Bourne Betrayal as sequels to Robert Ludlum’s Bourne Identity, Supremacy and Ultimatum.

    Keep the fingers crossed!
