There’s No Place I’d Rather Be.
Every Jul and Aug, we (as in radio jocks) are asked to plug National Day songs on our shows.
Seriously, I’d do it without any prompting from the authorities, if each and every song is as listenable as Home- erm, the 1998 version, NOT the 2004 remix.
I’ve lost count of the number of times I dropped my jaw in the studios and shouted (off air) to anyone who happened to be there, “What?! Are you kidding?! He/She/They is/are going to sing that awful song at the NDP?! Oh puhleese!”
Looking at some of the songs that were produced over the years, I was tempted to suggest scraping the idea of having one new song a year and divert the funds elsewhere. We could have more fireworks, for instance.
While the NDP theme song this year might not overtake the success of Home in 1998, I can safely say that most, if not all, radio people on Caldecott Hill, Toa Payoh North and Bukit Merah would be most willing to play this song to death.
Because it’s Kit Chan.

i totally agree… it’s one song which no matter how many times i listen to it, i wont get sick/tired of it… and it’s the only “newer” NDP songs which i could remember the whole song’s lyrics.. :p [of cos, older ones learnt since kidergarten days, cant forget right..]

Exactly right man! “Home” by Kit is the best NDP song ever. I hummed this song when I was coming back from Australia (only 5 months absence!) and the plane was nearing Changi..and it brought tears to my eyes. Ha, how’s that for emotionally patriotic? (:

I agreed that this year’s song was splendid… Was super nice.. I personally feel that Kit Chan sings very well and suits the NDP theme… Though we cant have her to sing every year… But so far, all the songs sang by her was nice and easy to memorise the lyrics.. hehe..
Kit Chan Jia You…
So does Brother Cruz..

Hmm.. doesnt anyone find that this year’s abit too “musical” like?
It’s great, Kit’s voice is awesome, but I don’t think it’ll get the crowd singing together…
*Shrugs*
Just my humble opinion… hehe
