It’s been a week since we’ve left the Dark Alley and I’m still getting feedback. Thank you for the positive and negative comments; I’ll take note yeah? And BOO! to those neutral ones. What?! Were you actually paying attention and listening? Hahahaha.

1. The original story is from … ?

吴淡如 《在暗巷的尽头相逢》. It’s not a full fledged novel but a chapter from a collection of love stories.

Yes, it’s supposed to be a love story lah, but I think I might have over-dramatised it. Haha.

2. What changes did I make… ?

a. Chen Wei Lun

With regards to the chain of events that happened in the past, there was way too much narration in the original story. I had wanted more conversation and didn’t want Zhuang Jing to do the explanation herself. Chen Wei Lun was created for this purpose.

I got carried away and gave Wei Lun more and more lines- he was even kpo enough to visit the old lady with Zhuang Jing after the operation! I ended up voicing the part cos I wanted to be the Male Lead. Muahahaha.

b. Zhuang Shui Long

Some people thought Zhuang Jing’s father had an awful(-ly funny) name.

The character’s name wasn’t mentioned in the original story. The surname was fixed of course. Because I wanted a name for an uncle, I sought inspiration from my dad’s and my uncle’s names. It didn’t occur to me that 庄水龙 = 装水龙头. Hahaa.

c. Liao Yu Lan

At the end of Episode 4, she said that she witnessed the death of Zhuang Jing’s mother. Well, it was my idea. I am very drama-papa lah. Hahaha! Personally, I pretty like the dramatic effect of superimposing the voices of the two women before entering the climatic chorus of the theme song.

By the way, her name in the original story was Liao Lan. I obviously don’t really like that name, thus the change. She died in the original. I’m glad I didn’t say she was dead in my radio drama. Guess why. *winks

d. The English Line

I didn’t expect so much reaction to Mary’s line in Episode 3. Too out of the blue? Or not used to people in Chinese radio drama speaking English?

He may be just a somebody in this world, but he means the world to me.

This sentence has been in my heart for a very long time- which is why I insisted on including it.
