New Shift

Ok, it’s official. I can announce this now.

But before this, let’s check out the polls:

I’ll be leaving Xian Ge Ji Yi after six months.

No, I wasn’t kicked out of the shift cos I sucked at reading dedications, and it wasn’t because they were worried I’ll turn obese with those nightly suppers.

The truth is, a revamp was planned and I was to be left untouched while a couple of DJs take on a new show.

Something happened along the way, and so….

Ladies and gentlemen, I will be doing the morning show with Lingzhi from 5 Sep!

Whoa…..

That was my response.

And everyone else’s.

The Flying Dutchman: What?! Again? You love mornings, don’t you?
Me: Oh yes. I absolutely love mornings.

Re-read the above lines till you grasp the sarcasm. Haha.

Truth is, I wanted to volunteer to do mornings when I heard a revamp was coming.

I was getting restless with just reading dedications. The energy level isn’t just what I’m used to. Having done power packed Morning and Evening shows for the past three years, Xian Ge Ji Yi, lacked a bit of action. You wouldn’t need to be an expert to know that just about anyone can host Xian Ge Ji Yi. That’s why XGJY was previously exclusively reserved for newbies. Nonetheless I was contented doing a slow paced show for a change, and decided not to volunteer for mornings.

Because I remembered I felt like shit getting out of bed at 5.30am.

I remembered how I almost threw the alarm clock out of the window when a sweet dream was halted abruptly.

I remembered shivering and swearing when it rained at dawn.

I remembered walking into the studios like a zombie with half opened eyes.

I remembered how I was stuck in the office, napping unglamorously on the office couch when meetings/shows and other appointments were scheduled in such a way I couldn’t go home, but had to wait in the office.

On 15 Aug, it was decided I would be posted to mornings. I was notified less than an hour after the decision was made.

Huishi probably expected an outburst from me as I had tried ways and means to get out of it in the first place. Ya, I tried for like ten months before they finally plucked me out of the Morning Bird King Show.

But then, if anyone is expecting me a colourful post of me kao peh kao bu-ing over the return to the morning show, sorry hor, no such thing.

For starters, I am tired of rushing to work. Dinner appointments suck big time when I have to constantly look at the clock to make sure I wouldn’t be late.

Furthermore, nightly suppers ain’t a good thing at all. But after work, hungry wor. Boh bian. Although staying up the whole night allows to me bond via MSN, and post entries to occupy my blog readers, it’s no good for the complexion as well as my health in general.

And I procrastinated more than ever. Because I have the luxury of sleeping in, or 睡到自然醒 as I repeatedly boasted on air, I tend to snooze and snooze, and KIV-ed my errands till the very last minute.

I will probably still complain about getting up early- you’ll see a lot of “Very sleepy today” posts from now on, but in a way, I’m looking forward to the new morning show.

I get a kick whenever people tell me I perk up their mornings with my bright and cheerful voice. Juvenile jokes which I don’t think are that funny somehow crack some people up.

How I manage to sound bright and cheerful with half opened eyes is a very big mystery to me. And how my inane antics keep sane adults entertained pose a bigger question mark. Yeah, I have my share of detractors, but boh bian, my boss loves putting me in the mornings. There’s nothing much they can do about that right? Hahaha.

On 933, Danny spent about three years in the morning, while Liyi holds the record at four. I intend to break that score. Two more years only mah.

Please wish me the very best for my new show.

And I really won’t mind getting alarm clocks as birthday presents. Best if they come with snooze buttons and melodious tunes that make waking up at 5.30am a lesser torture. Thanks in advance!
