Perks
Working in the media has a few perks the rest of the working population may not enjoy. FREEBIES! And I mean, A LOT OF FREEBIES!
Yes, if you’re the yao-gwee sort, you should seriously consider getting a job in either MediaCorp or SPH. Or any publishing or production house.
But when you’re at an interview and asked why you would like a job in this industry, DO NOT, at any time, mention anything about Freebies.
We receive complimentary CDs almost on a daily basis. Yes, it’s heaven. It’s original, it’s free and it’s delivered to your pigeon hole. What more can a music lover ask for! However, there are some idiots out there who actually sell their free CDs at second hand shops. I think it’s plain RUDE and unethical. How can you sell something you got for free?!
Besides CDs, tickets to a lot of gigs, and any title from MediaCorp Publishing (Damn! I wouldn’t have suscribed to FHM if I knew the contract was coming to MediaCorp), we receive other surprises too.
I’ve had thoughtful clients sending me breakfast while I was doing the morning shift. That included McDonalds when they launched the Bacon, Lettuce, Tomato McMuffin. And this company who threw in 2 roti pratas (kosong)and a banana with their brand of coffee. (I’m very sorry, I really cannot recall the brand.) When I stayed back in the office in the afternoons a couple of times, I chanced upon the friendly people from Coffee Bean and Tea Leaves with their latest Blends.
When they say Men and Women are not Equal, you’d better believe it.
The ladies in my office receive more freebies! They come in the form of skincare products, cosmetics samples, and oh, female hygiene products. In short, these are things I cannot ka-pok…
Finally someone thought of the guys… Though the parcel was addressed to Cruz PENG, the whole office correctly deciphered the code and therefore didn’t try to ka-pok.
