At Mt A…
Went to Mt Alvernia right after my shift last night cos my left eye was getting redder and itchier… I did encounter this before, but the itch and redness usually disappeared after a couple of hours. Common sense prevailed, so I thought I’d better hurry to the doc’s, before I become the first 独眼龙 DJ in Singapore.
Yeap. 2nd visit in less than 10 days. Got discount anot huh?!
Amazingly, the 24 hour clinic was bustling with activity at 11pm! That of course meant a looooonnnnggg wait. A long and boring wait for me…
My mobile battery died on me again and I had nothing in my bag to keep me occupied. The TV was tuned to ESPN, which I had zero interest in. In fact, nobody was watching it. Why can’t they play more engaging shows like Mr Bean? The only time I perked up, was when I saw a Japanese footballer who had the name TAMADA printed on his jersey. Just curious, is his brother TAMADE? Hahaha.
While waiting for my number to be beeped, I sat in a quiet corner and did some “people watch“. That’s when I noticed an unusually high number of kids. 10! All sick! Okie Doctors, you may take your time with these children. My eye is only damn itchy. My cough has only lasted less than 2 weeks. Although I’m coughing my lungs out, and I have this urge to dig out my left eyeball, I won’t die yet. 这些孩子是我们国家未来的主人翁!:/
Then I saw this Ah Lian, strolling in with her Ah Beng husband, and sick baby. The way she carried her baby was not unlike a four year old girl playing with masak. Moments later, this baby started to cry. Wah biangz. Think this baby can be the Parade Commander for National Day Parade when he/she grows up. The cries were freaking loud!
And after a while, it got freaking irritating. A couple of patients, including this guy who had this agonizing look (and later puked in the toilet, while I was in there) chose to wait outside the glass doors. A couple of old ladies constantly looked in the direction of the Ah Beng and Ah Lian… I suspected they each have their own ways to pacify a crying baby, but were too paiseh to lend a helping hand.
After about 90 minutes, a buzzer sounded and 107 was flashed on the monitor. (4D anyone?) The doctor was the same one who saw me last Sunday. He was quite surprised to see I haven’t recovered from my cough and asked me to return for an X Ray the following week if the condition persists. Huh? So serious ah?! As for the eye, he didn’t say much and just gave me a bottle of potent eye drops that had the word POISON on it.
20 hours later, the redness has subsided significantly. Whew. But it’s still damn itchy!
Meanwhile, thanks to Peifen and Jiahui for covering my duties. *Muack*
