Finally… it’s here!

When Star Wars IV: A New Hope premiered in 1977, my parents hadn’t walked down the aisle. The phenomenon was pretty distant. But thanks to SBC-TCS-MediaCorp which aired IV, V and VI over and over and over and over and over and over and over again, I had nothing to fear.

And the original Star Wars fans had a chance to test their memory skills- Look… after this scene, that is going to happen. Don’t blink, something’s gonna blow. Okie, you can go pee now but be back in 3 minutes cos so-and-so is gonna do something to so-and-so.

The original Star Wars generation, the ones who spent all their pocket money on R2-D2 and friends, blatantly thrashed The Phantom Menance and Attack of the Clones. They worry that Mr Lucas and Mr Christensen might just cock up again (!)in the finale.

If you trust Mr John Woo (who directed FaceOff, Mission Impossible II, 英雄本色,纵横四海, etc), Revenge of the Sith should be real good. As he stepped out of the screening in Cannes, Mr Woo reportedly said “”好看!好玩!”. He was either telling the truth, and nothing but the truth, or he’s been promised a part in VII as a Jedi who can even choose the colour of his lightsabre.

If you aren’t a Star Wars fan, my deepest sympathies.

Firstly, you’ve missed out on something of epic proportions.

You like romance?
We’ve got a love story that’s more steady than Jack and Rose’s “You Jump, I Jump”.

You like comedy?
We’ve got idiotic characters that’s more cringeworthy than Jack and Rose’s “You Jump, I Jump”. Jar Jar Binks, you don’t hide!

You like action?
In the weapons category, the lightsabres win hands down. Rose’s ex (I forgot his name) can keep his gun. And hey, entire planets are wiped out with the Death Star!

You like drama?

This 与世无争 little boy is the star of the show. Along the way, he picks up skills, almost like 张无忌mastering 九阳神功 and 乾坤大挪移。

Then he meets a sweet girl. –问世间情为何物~~

Instead of 远走高飞,流浪到天涯海角,不问江湖是非,he wanna be 武林至尊. So he turned into a ultra bad guy. And he 背叛师门。So his teacher had to 家法伺候。He doesn’t kick the bucket, (cos the series cannot continue without him) He sang 看我72变 and turns into the coolest villian in cinematic history.

A couple of years later, his 龙凤胎 children wanna kill him, thinking he’s the 杀父仇人, only to realise he’s actually their dad. It’s really 晴天霹雳 here.

Finally he 悬崖勒马,痛改前非,and 壮烈牺牲。

You see! All the things you find in Hong Kong/ Taiwan Drama are in here!

Non Star Wars fans, I assume you are about to puke from all the A&P overload.
*sayang*

With May 19, Star Wars fans aren’t the only ones who are happy.

This week’s 8 Days has four different versions.

Plenty of promotions inside:

Redeem Star Wars collectibles using cornflakes boxes!
Win Star Wars collectibles by eating chocolates that melt in your mouth, not your hand!
Get a Free Star Wars watch by purchasing Star Wars mobile phone top up cards!
Collect Star Wars tumbler when you eat a Galatic Burger! Can choose either Chicken or Beef!

Fans are happy when they win something (Don’t win, never mind… You still have the cornflakes and chocolates right?) ; Organisers are happy when they make money.

Cool. Everyone is happy.

Analysts are happy too! They have work to do, and can finally produce stats that people actually care about!

“…The film opens in 3,661 theatres across the US and has sold a record number of advance tickets there and in several other countries, analysts have said…”

Me Me! I booked the tickets on 1 May. And for the first time in my life, I printed tix using an AXS!

Meanwhile DVD pirates are preparing to flood the market with illegal copies of the film, authorities said.

Damn you idiots. You can go ahead and clone copies of the silly Open Waters, that made my friends sea sick while sitting in Lido. I hope you get caught soon. Along with those people who pirated Music Diary I and II.

A US consulting film has calculated the film’s release has cost $627m (S$342m) in lost productivity. Consulting firm Challenger, Gray and Christmas said the buzz about the film would prompt many people to skip work for daytime screenings.

Alamak! How can they be so irresponsible?! Can they look up to me and not chao geng? Scarly take MC and bump into boss in the theatre, lagi jiak lat right?

May the Force be with them….

Meanwhile, check out this spoof.
