Claps for NP

I am so proud of my alma mater.

“…Some final-year business and first-year Engineering students will become the pioneer batch in Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP) to take up new course options to tap the 35,000 job opportunities in the upcoming integrated resort industry

The School of BA is currently offering five options for its three-year Diploma in Business Studies (BS). The five options, all offered in the final year, are Tourism & Leisure Management; Service Management; Entrepreneurship; Marketing; and Human Resource Management. The latest option, Resort Management, will build on BA’s industry experience in the areas of tourism, leisure and service management.

NP students will also be able to benefit from hands-on training by industry players. NP had in the past sent students on board the Star Cruise fleet and attached students to Club Med resorts for industrial exposure. NP students may even find, in the near future, overseas resorts in such countries as Australia and United States on their itinerary for industrial attachment.”

The current cohort is so fortunate. By the time the Casinos-disguised-as-Integrated-Resorts are ready, my fellow BS graduates will probably have an advantage over other graduates.

Back then, I chose the Tourism & Leisure Management option. (vs Marketing, Operations Management and Human Resource Management)

The main draw was the Star Cruise excursion. The 100 over of us boarded one of their fleets at a discounted price and had the time of our lives.

We visited “the place where they steer the ship” (sorry, I forgot the actual term here) and “the place where they cook” (it’s not called a kitchen, as far as I remember).

We talked to schoolmates we normally wouldn’t have talked to in LT….

We were amazed with the cheap alcohol on board…

We had fun watching people get drunk and make a fool of themselves…

We ate and ate and ate… (Believe or not, I was only 60kg then!)

We booked a room for mahjong..And believe me, when you have such a magnificient view of the sea, winning or losing doesn’t mean much…

(We learnt a whole lot of other things, which I shan’t mention cos this is my blog, and not a reference site for Tourism students)

That was an unforgettably fun filled learning experience… Which leaves me to wonder if future students get to visit the top “IRs” around the world…
