Casino~Casino
7am!
Just finished one third of the series. If not for the fact that I have a recording at 3pm, I will certainly go on.. ![]()
Today’s a very important day! The Government is set to announce whether casinos will be allowed in Singapore. Thanks to the print journalists (you SPOILERS!), I guess the big question mark here isn’t YES or NO, but ONE or TWO.
Someone’s gonna interview me later. I wonder it’s her personal choice of interviewee or my promo dept’s decision to consolidate my positioning as a gambler. Hey, no one is concerned about my image?! Haha.
Earlier, I was asked not to talk about my mahjong games on air. But hey.. what’s wrong?! It’s firstly not illegal to be playing mahjong with my friends. And medical research has repeatedly proven it’s beneficial for the elderly.
When the government first talked about casino plans, people sprang up and voiced their concerns over “housewives playing jackpot and forgetting to cook dinner“, “people borrowing money to pay their debts“…
I dunno if it’s under duress or anything, the media has made a person who enters a casino seemed like a good for nothing. Throw in some misfortune such as unemployment to make the thing look more realistic. The celebs interviewed on the topic on gambling either do not or have not or will not. Excuse me, then why are they there?! They can be in an anti gambling commercial, but not in a forum right?!
Effectively, a gambler has a image problem right here. Compared to the other vices, it just looks uncool.
Some people think they look cool with a Malboro in their hands.
Some insist it’s real cool to down ten Tequila Shots and still be able to walk in a straight line.
Some people believe a triad boss looks cool.
A lot of people, especially the ones who ask me not to talk about mahjong on air, think gambling is not cool.
I dunno what the actual questions are, but I’m not gonna deny that I look forward to visiting casinos.
Because I’m proud of the fact that I can exercise self control.
And I think the media should feature more case studies on people who know how to manage their time, finance and occasional gambling habits, instead of purely interviewing goody-two-shoes and magnifying sad stories to deter people from gambling and make religious and moral rights groups happy.
