Bonus Time
14 April 2005 Thursday | 4:57 | -

If I remember correctly, an extra sum of money will be credited into my bank account on the 25th of this month, together with my usual pay.

Ladies and gentlemen, it’s BONUS TIME!

Whoa~ I feel so indebted to the people who set the HR policies in my company. Joined MediaCorp Radio full time in mid Feb 2002, and got a “pro-rated bonus” in Apr that year. How cool can that be?! Tell me who made that splendid decision to award bonuses to people on probation and I’d be very happy to give her a kiss. I’ll give a real firm and sincere handshake if its’ a he!

For the past 2 years, I had lavish plans for the extra money way before it was credited. A new LV something will be nice. A shopping trip to somewhere will be good. Eventually those plans didn’t materialise. The three bonuses I got are still numbers in my bank account, increasing ever so slowly year by year.

Hmm, I didn’t cultivate the habit of saving when I was younger. Yeah, I just had to use that final 30cents to buy a curry puff, or that final ten dollars to take a cab. I made sure all my income (army allowance + part time DJ fees) were used to the max. Thought I’d begin saving when I started to work. But hey! Where did all the money go?! I’d be so hesistant to draw cash at the ATM, cos my friends will be asking me why the balance was so little.

I think Bonus Time is an excellent occasion to start saving. You know the feeling: when you’re used to seeing double or, OMG, single digits, everytime you go to the ATM… Then when Bonus Time comes, whew, it’s no longer double digits anymore! Whoopee!

To the guys who’ve been bugging me to save, save, save. Yeah I have! Not as much as you guys, but I’m trying my best to accumulate enough money in case I get retrenched (.. for erm talking over song intros among other things?! haha!) or in the unfortunate event that I fail to land myself a rich woman.

People, people… If you are a spendthrift like me, please start doing something~

Yup, seeing money in the bank doesn’t bring you happiness…. It does?! Then you will make good pals with a very stingy friend of mine.

Anyway, I heard this excellent tagline on Taiwan radio :

你不理财,财不理你!
