Don and Aiwei picked me up at 1140pm for a “gathering” at Jan’s place (near YCK). Upon reaching, we saw some people looking up her block. We thought it might be a case of someone committing suicide. Then we saw more and more people leaving their flats and assembling at the ground floor. A lady shouted to me, EARTHQUAKE! I was like, huh?!

I called MediaCorp Radio’s Newsroom (btw, its 68222268) and reported this. Apparently, they received similar reports from WTC area. Subsequently I called 933 studio and did a live roving report.

While we speculated that the tremors were caused by an earthquake in a neighbouring country, a number of residents, especially those on the higher floors were apprenhensive about returning to their flats, citing concerns that the “shaking” might be due to the building’s structure and were afraid that the bldg might collapse.

Me, on the other hand, had complete trust in HDB. I snatched the keys from Jan and proceeded up.

By then 933 and CNA confirmed that an earthquake occurred at North Sumatra.

I hope the loss is kept to the minimum. *fingers crossed*
