CNY
Totally agree with Jan that CNY is a great opp to catch up with sleep…
I’m totally in sync with the rest of the community in preparation for the festival… Strongly believes in wearing RED and something NEW, thus leading the frantic last minute shopping.. Feverishly embraces our culture and stirring up the mood. Check out my playlist for the past weeks! Dong-dong-qiang madness in the mornings!
After the Reunion Dinners on CNY eves, the momentum kinda disappers..
When my grandmother was around, my place was kinda like a HQ.. so it meant an annual stand-by-bed for me.. With visitors strolling in and out, it’s no wonder the cleaning has to start right afer the inspection.
For the next couple of days, the ang pow collecting excursions, coupled with mindless banter and standard questions pertaining to my work and romance status don’t sound as important as sleep marathons and hide-and-seek games. Point here is I hide, people seek but can’t find..
Just counted… This is the 9th consecutive CNY that I’m working. It’s so usual for me to be away from family and friends’ gatherings.. Well, things have improved.. Been working on one day vs three in the CNY Eve- Day 2 period.
Tip on how to be on top of people’s minds: Absent yourself for 4 years, turn up the next year and disappear for the next 3. The conversation topics will probably remain the same when you say Gong xi fa cai to them again.
Haven’t been a fan of bai-nian-ing all these years. Just when I thought I should totally immerse myself in this joyous occasion and parade of new clothes, I found myself caught in an awkward situation this year.
Have some guys feeling I should be able to join in the festivites after 49 days of my grandmother’s demise, while the other camp doesn’t think so. Btw, I was barred by one of my uncles to attend my cousin’s 21st BD party earlier this week. (pls join me in giving this loud D-U-H!)
The never ending arguing and discussion of whether I’m allowed to visit, with or without ang pows and/or oranges kinda dampens the mood further.. The “Oh?-Not-confirmed?-Means-not-coming-lah!-As-usual” SMS sarcasm probably added to my enthusiasm in shutting off the mobile.
Gonna book a flight out of Singapore next year.
